Kuwait contains around 70% of expatriates, and this makes it unique from all other countries in the gulf or MENA region. All these are working professionals, skilled workers, labour, etc. hired from other non-Arab and Asian countries.
As per laws, a resident is required to apply for the Kuwait Civil ID card within 30 days after receiving their residency visa. It is issued by the Public Authority for Civil Information – PACI.
What is a Civil ID?
Same as in Saudi Arabia every expat is provided with an Iqama, here in Kuwait they call it BATAKA or MOI Civil ID Kuwait. Ministry of interior Kuwait controls all this, so that adds the name of MOI with the ID. MOI has introduced the same eServices that helps anyone to check MOI Civil ID status and other information like ID expiry or validity.
Every checkpoint they normally ask you to show then your Bataka & if you got any traffic violation then you can see fine against it. Always keep it in your pocket or else you are going to be in trouble if some authority asks for it. You can also use to make a bank account, to buy a vehicle, and admit kids in school here in Kuwait.
It is just an identity card with all the related information of an individual holder. This ID is helpful to make bank transitions that help to send money back home by an expat. In GCC countries like Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, this ID card has a different name like Iqama and Bataka, Civil ID. But overall it represents the same purposes in all these countries.
In this article, I will cover the major aspects of the 12-digit Civil ID and also how to get help from the Ministry of Interior – MOI Kuwait
